And It Should Come to No Surprise...

It appears that Georgia Tech's one and done has finally stated what we all knew to be true. Derrick Favors has decided to forgo the rest of his college career and turn pro. This should surprise no one. I think every Georgia Tech basketball fan not obsessed with getting Paul Hewitt removed knew that Favors was going to be gone after the season. There were even rumors that he rarely went to class!

When Favors selected Tech, it was really a coup for Paul Hewitt. Here was a top level talent player who wanted to come to Tech and put it back on the college basketball map. From the moment he stepped on campus, people were clamoring for him to start and keeping their fingers crossed that he could put the team on his sizable shoulders and make us a major player once again. The result? He did ok.

This is not to say that he wasn't a good player, because he is a good player. He has all the tools to be a solid professional basketball player. Having watched a couple of games this year, there was something about Favors that really started to bug me. I want to make it clear that I am not bashing him in any way because he played well and he seemed to be a good young man on and off the court. The only thing that bugged me was that when things weren't going his way, it was easy to tell that he stopped caring at times.

If he wasn't playing well or being outplayed, his shoulders would slump and his body language would scream, "I give up!" Now I am sure that this will be something he will outgrow because he is such a young man. However, if I was an NBA executive, in a league that pushes teams to start rookies right away, I would hesitate to bring someone in who seemed to give up way too easy and who stopped playing hard when things weren't going his way.

Again, Favors should be a solid NBA player who will end up having a good career. I just think that one more year of playing at the college level would have done him some good in developing his playing attitude and techniques.

But who am I to judge?

Moving on....

If you are a follower of Mash On The Gas, you can tell that there have been little postings as of late. We truly apologize for this but this site started out as a Football blog that added the other Tech sports to it. Since football is just starting to warm up, so too will MOTG. There have been some nice developments on the team and we will be covering them as only MOTG could.

And now, because I know you missed it:
The AJC UGA Ridiculous Vent of the Week!
Grantham's Defense will dominate Johnson's offense and Bobo's Offense will overwhelm Groh's defense.
*It took me a while to find one this time because most of the comments were negative!*
